a quick charger with a fast speed to charge smartphones

How to Identify and Find a Fast Charger?

With the iteration of technology, fast charging has become our first choice for charging electronic devices. A quick charger with a fast speed to charge smartphones or laptops is also more able to meet our fast-paced life. Except for the original fast charger, are there other fast chargers for your selection? How to identify? How to find it?

What is Fast Charging?

The fast charger can quickly charge your phone or tablet. It can pump out 10 to 65 watts of power in half an hour or an hour, powering your phone and laptop for hours. Technically, any chargers over 2.5 watts are considered fast charges. The charger, battery, and charge wire three are also indispensable to achieve fast charging.

Types of Fast Charging

There are two kinds of fast charging protocols, generally public protocols and private protocols. These two protocols can be subdivided into different types of protocols.

Public protocol

Qualcomm Quick Charge

Qualcomm's quick charge is the most common standard for fast charging. Some standards include QC1.0, QC2.0, QC3.0, QC4.0, QC4.0+, QC3.0+, and QC5.0. QC5.0 is the latest standard, supporting 100W fast charging and compatible USB PD standard.

USB Power Delivery

At present, the latest standard is USB PD 3.1. With the addition of the PPS protocol, it has been compatible with various fast charging protocols. The supported voltage range can be from 5V to 20V, and the maximum charging power is 100W, covering almost all current electronic devices.

MediaTek Pump Express

The Pump Express standard is a unique feature of MediaTek phones. You will see different versions on different devices. The latest standard is PE 4.0, gradually moving closer to the USB PD standard.

Private protocol

Huawei SuperCharge

It concludes with Fast Charge Protocol (FCP) and Super Charge Protocol (SCP). The early FCP used a high-voltage and low-current solution. In 2016, Huawei launched the new SCP, an FCP upgrade. In 2020, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro was released, and the charging power was further improved, reaching 66W.

Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging

Samsung's Adaptive Fast Charging is similar to Qualcomm's Quick Charge by function. Both maximize voltage and current strength. Its super accelerated charging technology relies on PPS voltage fine-tuning technology.

OPPO VOOC/SuperVOOC

VOOC flash charge is a fast charge technology independently developed by OPPO. It is the world's first mass-produced and commercialized fast charging solution. The VOOC flash charge requires a customized adapter and battery.

VIVO FlashCharge

In 2020, VIVO released a 120W flash charge. And it is used on the new model iQOO 5 Pro.

Xiaomi ChargeTurbo

MIChargeTurbo flash charging technology is launched by Xiaomi for Mi series mobile phones and is suitable for Xiaomi and Redmi mobile phones.

How to Identify a Fast Charger?

The appearance of the fast chargers is similar, so do you know how to distinguish them?

Choose the right cable

Not all cables are suitable for fast charging. Fast charger cables are usually thicker because more wires are gathered inside them.

Check the Voltage and Current Output

A cable that can output 5V, 9V, 12V, or even 2000mA power is a sure sign that it is a fast charger. On the other hand, anything under 1000mAh is considered a slow charger. So look for 5V-2A or 5V-2000MA.

Ideally, it would be best if you are looking for a fast charging cable with a voltage of 2A or higher but check carefully for the specific currents suitable for fast charging your devices.

Connect your phone or laptop

The quick way to identify a fast charger is to use it. Unlike a standard charger, a fast charger will indicate that it is charging by lightning in the device charging symbol. If unsure, you can also look at the battery in Settings and look for "quick charge."

Read the specification

Most fast-charging cables and accessories will also be noted on the packaging. Many cable manufacturers will label the quick charger and provide instructions on what it does. Look for a short description that says "Fast charging." Another specification detail is "Quick Charge 2.0" or "QC3.0".

Ask Google

If you want to know if your device supports fast charging or exactly what kind of fast charger protocol it supports, you can Google it and look for the device's specs. Google will give you the answer.

Kovol Sprint 20W PD Fast Wall Charger

The Kovol 20W PD fast wall charger adopts power delivery PD 3.0 (20W) and QC 3.0 (18W) charging technologies and boosts an iPhone 12 and 13 up to 50% in just 25min, with a compact size to take up less space.
